Soil-related construction supervision (SCS)

Since at least September 2019, with the entry into force of DIN 19639, soil-related construction supervision has constituted an indispensable state-of-the-art practice for soil protection during construction.

Soil protection during construction planning and execution is an often underestimated issue. In this context, the BBB fulfills the role of specialist construction supervision, carried out by personnel trained in soil science who possess the relevant professional qualifications and experience.

The responsibilities associated with soil-related construction supervision are highly varied. The primary objective is to handle the soil—a resource requiring protection—with care while ensuring a cost-efficient and optimized construction process. Expert soil knowledge can prevent soil damage—such as that caused by earth moving, vehicle traffic, dumping, or improper stockpiling—which frequently occurs during construction projects. This helps avoid financial pitfalls, such as compensation payments to landowners for soil damage or the need for expensive, time-consuming remediation and recultivation measures.

In accordance with DIN 19639, a soil management plan (SCS) ​​must be incorporated into the approval planning stage prior to construction in order to implement legal and regulatory requirements.
